Created during late 2019/early 2020, pre-Covid period of #45's continued xenophobic rants and policies (and every other *phobic phrase you can think of). The capturing and separation of children from their parents was especially brutal and frequently on my mind. I began sketching, really doodling and this series took shape. The resulting drawings didn't reveal much until I began painting. The form and color of the parents' garments reminded me of the blue burkhas I've seen while the children's images are always playful, unaware of the shield provided by their caregivers' shield for their safety. The smokey outline was painted with khaki green, naples yellow and white, bringing to mind colors of the army, but also a smokey surrounding.&eng&eng
